HOPE is one of the coveted and limited Alerion 26' - 12 boat series - executed by Halsey Herreshoff and built at the Herreshoff museum, the site of the famed Herreshoff Shipyard in Bristol, Rhode Island. Originally designed by Nathanial Herreshoff as his personal day-sailor, this version was re-designed by Halsey (his grandson) to include a comfortable cuddy cabin for weekending, a fixed keel for added performance, and an inboard engine. She features a hand-laid fiberglass hull and deck, Philippine mahogany cabin sides and trim, Brunzeel mahogany plywood bulkheads, and Teak cockpit grating and cabin sole.
This particular boat underwent a stem-to-stern refit between 2012 and 2014 that included a complete paint job on the hull, deck, and interior as well as the mast and boom. New sails, standing rigging, canvas cushions, and a cockpit cover were also new at this time. She was intended to be carried aboard a superyacht but was subsequently placed on a trailer and stored ashore for nearly 8 years, and was only dry-sailed a handful of times until acquired by a Yachtsman from Newport, RI. Over the last 3 years, she has been captain maintained and sailed multiple times a week during the summer months until recently being donated to the Maine Maritime Academy.
She is available on very attractive terms through a 3-year Charter/Lease with Purchase Option.
